Boddony is one of the dwarfs who brought moveable type to Ankh-Morpork. S/he teams up with William de Worde to start the Discworld's first newspaper, the Ankh-Morpork Times after his press literally runs into William.

Boddony is the dwarf-to-be of the dwarf Gunilla Goodmountain - (sex isn't discussed amongst dwarfs – it's rather assumed that the two of them know which is which).  Boddony's name is a reference to "Bodoni"  a well-known typeface that was designed at the end of the eighteenth century by Giambattista Bodoni, an Italian printer who became the Director of the Press for the Duke of Parma. Gunilla, which is a female Swedish name meaning "battle maiden", is likely the female partner of the pair.  Goodmountain is a direct translation of "Gutenberg".  On Roundworld, Johannes Gutenberg was the German inventor of moveable type in the 1450s, most famously responsible for the Gutenberg Bible, the first printed book in the Western World to be mass-produced.

Another dwarf mentioned in The Truth, is Caslong, who is also another sly nod to Roundworld. Caslon is a well-known typeface named after its creator William Caslon who released it in the 1730s. It was a highly successful and popular typeface throughout Europe and America: the first printings of the American Declaration of Independence and Constitution were set in Caslon.

Another member of Goodmountain's dwarf team is called Gowdie which is a reference to Frederic William Goudy, the American type designer who designed the Berkeley Old Style font as well as several Goudy fonts he named after himself.
