Lezek is a minor character in the novel Mort. He is the father of Mort and has one known brother, Hamish who farms with him. They are reannual farmers, specializing in distilling the wine from reannual grapes. Reannuals grow the year before you plant them so it is critical that you remember to plant in the year following your crop harvest or there can be a risk to the entire fabric of causality, not to mention acute embarrassment. Wine made from reannual grapes is highly prized by fortune tellers because it obviously allows them to see into the future. The drawback to drinking it is that you get the hangover the morning before, and you had to drink a lot to get over it. Because it is such a highly skilled profession and Mort lacks that focus, neither Lezek nor Hamish believe that Mort should enter the family business. This leads Lezek to take him to the market to get an apprenticeship with Death. Lezek seems to be a bit like Candide in believing that things will turn out for the best, which Mort mentions to Albert. He dies sometime between the events of Mort and Soul Music.
