Pteppic (pronounced Teppic) is a central character in the novel Pyramids, which is his only appearance in the Discworld series.

For a brief time he was king of the desert kingdom of Djelibeybi.

Education

Pteppic was born in Djelibeybi to the currently presiding king and queen. He was raised in the palace where he was educated by personal tutors selected by his father.

At the age of twelve it was decided that he should learn a trade. He was sent away to the city of Ankh-Morpork and enrolled in the Assassins' Guild.

Whilst at the Assassins' Guild he was placed in Viper House where his housemaster was Grunworth Nivor, who also taught him for Traps and Pitfalls. His teachers included Mericet, who taught him for Strategy and Poison Theory and Kompt de Yoyo who taught him for Modern Languages and Music.

He eventually completed his education when he graduated from the Assassins' Guild by completing the final examination, known as The Run.

Family

Pteppic's father is King Teppicymon and his mother was the Queen. He has an aunt, on his father's side, called Cleph-ptah-re and an uncle, on his mother's side, called Vyrt who is also an Assassin.

He has a sister called Ptraci who succeeded him as ruler of Djelibeybi after he abdicated from the throne.

Time as ruler

Following his father's accidental suicide, he was called back to Djelibeybi to rule in his stead under the guidance of Dios. He found that, compared to Ankh-Morpork, Djelibeybi was a backwards nation, clinging to tradition and the past to the point of bankruptcy. When he attempted to change the way things were run through modernizing the kingdom and showing leniency to prisoners, Dios counteracted him, claiming that what he actually wanted was not what he said.

When Dios gave a hand maiden the choice between freely being buried with the late king and being thrown to the crocodiles, Pteppic had had enough, using his training as an Assassin to break in and free the hand maiden, fleeing on a camel to the nearby kingdom of Ephebe.
