Rob Anybody (aka Rob NEboD per his own spelling) is a Nac Mac Feegle of the Chalk Hill Clan. He is the key figure in the group. He first appears in the Tiffany Aching novel, The Wee Free Men. Like all Feegles, he is reluctant to give his name, for fear it will be used against him, perhaps written down in the form of a warrant, a wanted poster or a summons, a fear that stems from their aversion to lawyers. However, he tells his name to Tiffany because, as she says, she can't keep calling his the "twiddler" after his habit of twiddling his animal skull helmet when he is nervous.

Physical Appearance[]

Rob Anybody is larger than the other feegles, standing around seven inches tall. His skin is bright blue and his hair is wiry and orange. He sports a beard, though the beard's appearance is not well described.

Rob typically wears a kilt and carries a large sword, which glows blue in the presence of lawyers. He is known to wear a helmet into battle which is carved from the skull of a rabbit.

Character Biography[]

Rob was born in the Chalk Hill Clan, and being the largest eventually rose to the title of Big Man.

He has many of the characteristics of a Scottish border riever, mixed with a stereotypical football hooligan; Pictsies tend to solve every problem by rushing in and fighting, shouting, drinking anything that looks vaguely alcoholic (turpentine/rat poison/lamp oil etc.) and stealing anything in sight or not. He speaks a language that appears to be a mix of Glaswegian Scots, Gaelic and "Braveheart". He is the toughest and bravest of all the Clan.

His brothers include Daft Wullie, Big Yan, Hamish, and No-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jock-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jock-Jock. He also has a sister, Fion. When Tiffany becomes the temporary Kelda of the Clan, she is supposed to chose a husband, which terrifies all the Pictsies as they are all under 6 inches tall and she is human sized; "a Bigjob". Fortunately, she thinks of a way to avoid the problem for them all by picking Rob Anybody to be her husband, when a distant mountain has been reduced to nothing by a bird, one grain of sand at a time - in other words - never. She thus chooses and conforms to tradition but doesn't have to comply with the act.

Ultimately, Rob marries Jeannie, a feegle from the Long Lake Clan. She makes him learn to read and write, recognizing that Rob is clever and knows how to use his head for something other than nutting whatever gets in his way. When trying to fight the Hiver's attempt to take over Tiffany Aching's mind, Rob, with help, manages to come up with a pretty good PLN (plan) to trap the Hiver in the one place it would be vulnerable and then fight it.

He is the unofficial guardian and protector of Tiffany Aching, due to her having been a former Kelda of the clan.

Rob appears in all five Tiffany Aching novels; The Wee Free Men, A Hatful of Sky, Wintersmith, I Shall Wear Midnight, and The Shepherd's Crown.
