Urdo van Pew is a character who appears in the BBC America TV show, The Watch. The series is based off Terry Pratchett's hit Discworld novels.

Urdo van Pew is the head of the Thieves Guild in the city of Ankh-Morpork.

Plot[]

Urdo van Pew is arrested for theft by Constable Carrot Ironfoundersson, the newest recruit of Ankh-Morpork's City Watch. Constable Carrot takes him to The Watch House, where he is almost immediately released by Corporal Angua von Uberwald. Before leaving, he warns her that Lord Vetinari will hear about what happened. Constable Carrot is then schooled in the true nature of the City Watch - that they are not a traditional police force, as many years ago the ancient criminal guilds were legalized by Lord Vetinari.

Following an attack upon the city by a Noble Dragon, Pew is summoned before Lord Vetinari along with Doctor Cruces, the head of the Assassins Guild and the Archchancellor of Unseen University. He tells her that his thieves are afraid to step foot in the city and she asks in turn if the Thieves Guild has any proposal for finding the creature. In response, he tells her that nobody's seen one in a thousand years and that folklore speaks of chaining virgins to rocks. When Doctor Cruces mocks his comment, he suggests that they should instead contract her to go after the creature, and she replies that if she can find it, she can kill it.

He tries to murder Doctor Cruces and, in return, is sanctioned by Lord Vetinari to hand over all of his guild's profits to Cruces. He is then approached by Carcer Dun and Wonse to steal the sword Gawain from the City Watch, them telling him that it will give him power they can never take away, one which is currently with somebody whose consciousness is his weakness.
